Hi, This is Bob the contractor – If you need some restoration work please call at 248 341 3900. We also have pages above to read. Just click the buttons.

An insurance repair and restoration contractor is a company that brings your house back to life after some sort of calamity. A calamity could be called a disaster I suppose depending on the amount of damage and the size of the repair. Actually the building owner would decide how much damage there is and weather it is a disaster or a calamity. Some people would think the worse of something fairly small due to the fact that no matter what size the damage the bad thing is that their castle is tarnished and it better be back in order in a hurry.

Bringing a building back is an act of restoration. That is where the word restoration comes from in the title of this article. Generally in the insurance repair business a building has to be brought back to as good as before or better. That means that everything has to be done. All the different trades including tear out or demolition, carpentry, masonry, electrical, painting, roofing and siding, sweeping and hauling away. If you are thinking of hiring someone and he says that “Were not going to do it all” maybe to save you some money, well I would say you should tell him to take a hike. If you want to do some of the work yourself, well that is up to you as long as you know what you’re doing and earn some of the money.

An insurance repair means that the building owner bought the appropriate insurance on the building and everything is covered with no problem. This way the insurance knows that they have to pay for the building repairs and content repair by professionals that are fast and thorough.

It is the owners job to buy the right kind of insurance. This can be a tough thing. We are not an insurance company. All I can say is from our end there are good insurance companies and there are insurance companies that are tough to deal with. I don’t know if this tough attitude is from an insurance companies charging less on premiums and then trying to short change the customer on the service end or not.

Oakbridge Construction has many years experience and we would like to talk to you about your building, whether it is a house or commercial building. We can be fast and thorough. We can be clean and respectful. We have an “A” grade from the BBB and we don’t expect that to change any time soon. Give Bob a call at 248 341 3900

Try to group your tools by project in different toolboxes for better organization. For example, keep plumbing tools together, such as pipe fittings, a wrench and PVC glue. Keep a separate box with the supplies you’ll need to do electrical work. You can then grab the right tools for the project without wasting time.

Look at your home’s water usage when planning home improvement projects. Low flow toilets, energy star water heaters and shower heads can all be added at relatively cheap prices. These low-flow additions increase your property value and can cut down on your monthly water bills.

Pick a reputable contractor that listen to your needs. Integrity is important in a contractor, but it is equally important that they listen to your specifications and concerns about any job they do. If the contractor doesn’t listen to you, he might accidentally do something you don’t want. Be sure that you and your contractor are communicating well.

If you use motion sensor lights instead of regular porch lights, you will lower your electric costs. You will still be able to turn the light on manually when you need to, and the motion detector can be adjusted for sensitivity.

Lampshades with no design or color are dreary and boring. You could easily create an original lamp sage with some acrylic paint and some stencils. This livens up the room without having to buy new lamp shades.

Stay on an even keel! Get rid of the annoying noise unbalanced fan blades make. Balancing can help fix a wobbly, noisy ceiling fan. A lot of times, you can adjust the screws on the fan. A small amount of debris can cause a fan to clog and become unbalanced. After you adjust the screws, make sure the fan is not dirty. Clean the fan blades if necessary.

You should always be sure to protect important surfaces when doing home improvement. You can avoid more work and costs by keeping your surfaces protected from dripping paint and airborne debris. Things you should protect are walls, floors and any other fixtures that can’t be moved out of the way.

Get motivated by making improvements you love. Give a personalized touch to each of your projects that reflect your personality.

Building supplies are valuable and are prone to theft most of the time. Keep all building supplies in a safe place when you’re not working on something. If your home is safe, meaning everything is locked and shut, you can store equipment inside. A lockable storage unit can prevent theft in an open house.

With DIY projects, safety should always come first. For instance, get a back harness if you are going to lift anything heavy or a helmet if you believe this will be useful.

Have a tiny organizer that is filled with many different fasteners handy. This makes you more prepared to tackle a wide range of home improvement projects. Stock your kit with items like nails, nuts, hooks and screws–all things that can be useful for common uses like hanging pictures, mending furniture and so forth.

These ideas and suggestions will allow you to make great improvements to your home. By completing even a few projects, you will not only increase the value of your home, but you will also gain a great feeling of accomplishment. Use this information now and enjoy the work that you do.

Don’t forget about the area outside your house. With a little work, you could convert a bit of your yard into a living space nearly as comfy as the inside of your home. It will be perfect for relaxing or throwing a party with friends and family.

You may want to get a dormer window if your attic is spacious. This adds charm to your house, along with potentially doubling your square footage. Making your attic useable will increase the value of your home and offer you more living space, all for a small cost.

Increase your available home improvement tools while saving money at the same time, by pooling you resources with neighbors and friends. This means that you can all share the large, expensive tools instead of buying 10 of each. As an added benefit, the two of you can bond and share home improvement tips.

Look for ideas for home improvement projects now. The more ideas you evaluate now, the more ideas you will have to choose from when it comes time to decide on a project. Don’t rush into picking color schemes; you don’t want to stress yourself out.

Use a tricky remedy to block holes that you suspect are letting mice in: stuff them with steel wool. This will prevent the mice from coming in because they cannot chew through steel wool like they can chew through other materials.

It should be clear by now that home improvement can be complex. If you are willing to put in the time and effort required, you can make your home a fabulous place to live. If you follow these tips you can succeed at job completion.

Adding panels to your walls can give your home a quick pick-me-up. Putting in new panels will give your home a new feel for a low cost. If you do change your mind and do not like what you have done, they are very easy to remove without causing a lot of damage to your walls.

Upgrading your appliances can do a lot for the perceived value of your house. Any appliance that you upgrade will help you add value and give you a great start towards your home improvement goals.

If your front door is well-designed and well-kept you can see an increase in value of your home as high as 10 percent. Even if you can’t replace the whole door, a coat of paint and a new doorknob can give your old door a new look.

Inspect your roof every spring for signs of damage. Here is one sign of damage to look for: shingles that are no longer flat, having taken on a curl due to winter’s stresses. You will want to replace these damaged shingles. Fix minor damage on your roof right away so that you do not end up having a more serious problem down the road.

One method that can give your home a fresh, clean appearance is having your carpets cleaned regularly. High traffic areas such as doorways and pathways should get special attention when shampooing and deep cleaning your carpets. This will make your house feel cleaner and keep it looking new.

Another way to make your home safe is to pad the corners of furniture if it is sharp. Many stores sell corner protectors. To make them yourself, tape foam pieces to the corners of any furniture with dangerous edges. Make sure, too, that you remove a potential tripping and strangling hazard for your children by taping down all loose wires.

To provide proper maintenance to your asphalt driveway, apply a sealer every year to prevent cracks and damage. Wet weather and sun can cause damage to your driveway. If water seeps down into the cracks and freezes and then thaws, it can make a mess. The asphalt sealant will protect against water and sun and keep the cracks sealed to prevent damage from freezing.

Consider the advice you received here, and you have already increased your potential for home improvement success. You can make your home your own if you have the pertinent tools. If you learn to do your own home improvement, you can save money and make useful changes to your home, all while having fun.

If you are planning to do some home improvement, schedule plumbing and electrical work first. These repairs usually require holes to be drilled into walls and floors, so it is best to do these repairs before others such as wallpapering or laying new flooring. If you are already repairing or replacing walls, then this is an ideal time to get plumbing or electrical work done.

Avoid listening to everything a contractor tells you. Even a reputable contractors sometimes take advantage of an easily intimidated owner. Make sure you verify all of the problems before you start spending money through a contractor.

Your home’s value will increase by simply upgrading your appliances. No matter your choice, updating your home’s appliances will go a long way in improving your home.

If you are doing a job that involves a great deal of weight, make sure you have enough safety gear. When lifting heavy items, wear a back harness. Wear a helmet if there’s a chance something will fall.

The time can easily escape you if you are laboring outside in hot weather. Safety is always important, and proper and adequate hydration is critical when you exert yourself on hot days. Take a moment away from your work and have a few sips of water. While you are doing that, take the time to appreciate what you have accomplished.

One good home improvement tip is to make sure that you keep your personal style in mind when making changes. Your personal touch will greatly enhance the look of any home improvement project.

Use wallpaper to create a unique and attractive bookcase. Try to pick a design that is unique and interesting. Apply the chosen wallpaper inside of the bookcase. This way, the design will be visible behind the books. This tip can give an old bookcase a new look and create a visually appealing focal point in any room.

To lower your energy bill, swap regular light bulbs for more energy efficient models. In addition to being good for the environment and lowering your electric bill, they are more long-lasting than traditional bulbs. Switch out those old bulbs and put in energy efficient bulbs.

If your gutters are clogged, it can lead to drainage issues, especially when you are in the middle of a rainy summer. Clogged gutters can lead to leaks in your roof and damage to your basement due to seepage. Make it a priority to clean your gutters every season.

Update your home with new features; its not as hard as you think. Although you can hire a professional to work on one of your projects, you can do many other projects yourself, even if you have not done much of this in the past. Utilize the preceding tips to complete your own project.

Only consider contractors for your home improvement projects that have proper licensing from your state of residence. To find out what is required, you can either call your state government or check their website. If the contractor is unlicensed, he may not be legitimate or he may have done something untoward that caused him to lose the license.

Get together with others in your community and share tools that are used on a limited basis. Ask around before buying an unusual or rarely used tool, especially if you’re only going to need it once. Sharing tools and knowledge can help both of you achieve more success in your projects.

Carpet will inevitably show its wear and age. Wooden floors are classic and will last considerably longer than even the most plush carpet.

If you want to do a project on your home you should start getting things together now. When you stay on the lookout for projects that you think could work in your home, you give yourself many options from which to choose when it comes time to decide on which home improvement projects you want to undertake. For example, if you are considering different color schemes to use for redecorating a certain room, having several ideas in mind makes the whole process less stressful when it is time to put your ideas into practice.

Make sure you have all required safety gear that you need for heavier projects. That means to wear a hardhat and safety glasses, as always, but also consider a back brace to protect your spine and back muscles when lifting heavier objects.

Why not start a landscaping project to beautify the surroundings of your home? You can plant lovely flowers, bushes or vines with whimsical trellises and strategically place stepping stones about the yard. Adding proper landscape to your yard greatly increases first impressions and goes a long way in increasing the value of your home.

When woodworking, always use the proper equipment to take measurements or judge whether a surface is level – don’t rely on your eyes. Instead, be sure to use a tool like a measuring tape or a level. A speed square is also great.

Perhaps one of the most critical things to keep in mind during your project is that you are perfectly capable of completing the task at hand. You must be patient, thorough and dedicated. You should be able to do it if another person can. By following the tips from this article, your home improvement project will no doubt go off without a hitch.

When doing renovations on a home, keep in mind that you should first work on the outside of the home, before you do any inside work like electrical work or plumbing. A dilapidated exterior will be an instant turn-off for prospective buyers, making good offers turn up less frequently, but interior issues will have a much smaller effect.

Paint is the first thing to think about when you’re styling a room. It is much easier to paint the walls and the ceiling first before you get new floor installed. No matter how many drop cloths you lay down, a little paint is bound to end up on your lovely new floor.

One of the best ways to improve the value and overall quality of your home is to upgrade the appliances. Whatever the circumstances, new appliances add value to your home.

Replace your standard porch light with a motion sensor porch light, as this will reduce electricity costs. You will still be able to turn the light on, and many models allow you to select different sensitivity thresholds.

One important home improvement project is to create a pathway that takes water away from the walls of your foundation. This may include gradation of your yard to slop to the road or even just lengthening your downspout further from your home.

Only consider contractors for your home improvement projects that have proper licensing from your state of residence. You can easily check for licensing information through your state’s government website or by placing a call. If you find a contractor that does not have a license, it is a sure bet that they lost their license for some reason or that they are a scam artist.

If there is a lot of space in the attic, you should install a dormer window to make the area more usable. This will add charm to the exterior of your home and potentially double your square footage. This makes your property worth much more and increases the amount of usable space in your house without breaking the bank.

Never guesstimate measurements or angles when you are doing any kind of woodwork. Keep a tape measure, level and a speed square handy, so you can make accurate measurements.

Try a landscaping project to bring a new look to your home and your yard. Try shrubs, plants, beautiful flowers, stones and vines to make your landscape look better. Having proper landscaping in your yard will make others have a better first impression and will increase the worth of your house.

Organize your tools into specialized toolboxes reserved for each project. For example, keep plumbing tools together, such as pipe fittings, a wrench and PVC glue. Similarly, you can make a toolbox that contains the parts and tools you need for electrical projects. By doing this, your tools will be much easier for you to find.

Using the tips you found here, you can get started and turn your house into the home of your dreams. Apply the tips in this article and get started on a home improvement project today.

Lights activated with a motion detector sensor might be beneficial outdoors. Motion-sensitive lighting makes your home more secure during the night by deterring trespassers or thieves. Motion sensitive lights are extremely effective when it comes down to lowering your electric bill. This is because the lights, and therefore electricity, are only being used when needed.

Most lampshades are actually quite boring. By using stencils, creativity, and paint, you will be able to transform your boring lampshade into a masterpiece. This will add a personal touch, making the room reflect your personality. This can take a boring room and make it more exciting.

Many older homes were constructed with only one bathroom. Have you though about how that would fit in your lifestyle? A home’s value relies heavily on whether or not it has adequate bathrooms. Adding an additional bath or two can add a lot more value to your house.

Steel wool can be stuffed into a hole which is being used by mice to come into your house. Mice will not be able to bite through this, so it will stop them from coming in until you can get to work on a permanent repair.

Make sure any contractor that you’re considering has the proper licensing your state requires. Look this up on your state’s website or call the appropriate department. If you find a contractor that does not have a license, it is a sure bet that they lost their license for some reason or that they are a scam artist.

If your living room lack’s pizzazz, try a bold print throw or rug to liven it up. Leopard or zebra prints can pack a punch in moderation.

If there are sections cut out of the walls in your home, differentiate them from the rest of the wall by painting them a different color or using different wallpaper. If you paint them, you might be able to get by with just a small container of paint instead of a whole gallon.

Use all the outdoor space available to you. Treat your backyard as a natural extension of your home by making it a more enjoyable place to spend time. It is the ideal place to have a cookout or to just relax after a trying day at work.

Check around your home’s foundation, looking for any low or sinking areas. Make sure the soil is adequately compacted to avoid soil erosion from concentrations of water. Water that collects and seeps through the ground near your foundation can cause cracks that can be very expensive to fix.

If home improvement projects are in your mind, you could be considering the many things that are involved in the various projects you have set forth. There is a lot of preparation, understanding and planning that you are going to need to do, though you have to start with what is important to the project that you are going to be doing. The tiny bits of advice and guidance found throughout these paragraphs should be enough to launch you on the right path, and keep you straight as you proceed.

Any plumbing and wiring issues should be addressed first when doing any home improvement projects. Since most of these repairs need to be done by going into your walls, you should take care of them first. It’s also easier on you to do this if you’re already renovating your walls and have them taken apart already.

Use a porch light with a motion sensor to cut down on your electric bill. You can still turn the light on manually when you need to, and most models also let you fine tune the sensitivity.

If you take an old fishing tackle box, you will find it is a great way to keep assorted fasteners organized so they are readily accessible. These handy little items are constantly needed when doing projects: picture hangers, screws of various types and sizes, an assortment of nails both small and large, and so on. The better the assortment you have of these, the fewer times you will have to delay a project and head for the hardware store.

Resealing the windows in your home can save you a great deal of money on your monthly heating and cooling bills. Doing so prevents moisture and leaks which avoids any kind of mold growth. Before applying the new caulk, remove the old caulking with a chisel or flat-head screwdriver, using a hammer as needed.

Get a second opinion on contractor recommendations and cost estimates for major home renovations you have planned. Even the best contractors with the finest reputations can take advantage of a disinterested or easily intimidated owner. Problems and issues raised by the contractor should be verified before the homeowner considers spending more money or extending the construction schedule.

Get together with others in your community and share tools that are used on a limited basis. Instead of purchasing costly specialized tools for single usage, borrow esoteric equipment from your neighbor who also loves home improvement projects. The two of you can also partner up and share tips.

Stucco could be a better option for you if you are replacing siding on your house. Stucco is relatively easy to install compared to wood or vinyl siding. Once it is installed, it will last a good number of years as well.

When storing supplies for your next project, keep in mind that building supplies of all types are often stolen. Whenever they are not in use, building supplies and tools should be kept safe. If the home you are working on is secure, with all the windows and doors in place with proper locks, then you can always store your supplies in there. Try a storage container that locks if your house is still not able to be locked.

Cover the surfaces so you can get protection if you are doing any home improvements. By protecting the surfaces from splattering paint or flying debris that create scratches, you ensure your remodeled spaces are protected from damage that can translate into more work and additional expenses. So, keep your walls protected from flying debris if you are not planning to repaint them. You should also cover fixtures and floors so they are not splattered with paint.

It need not be impossible to add the features that you want to your home. Even though most projects can be done by skilled labor, many exist that you could handle on your own. Complete your own projects by applying what you have learned from this article.

Install motion detectors in front of the entrance of your house. When you are only turning on the light when required, you are saving a lot of money on electricity. A secondary benefit to installing the motion detectors is that they may deter thieves. Should someone break into your home, the lights will automatically come on and alert neighbors to their presence.

One good home improvement tip is to make sure that you keep your personal style in mind when making changes. You will enjoy your home much more if it reflects who you are.

It is all too easy to forget how long you have been outside when you are working in the heat. Safety is always important, and proper and adequate hydration is critical when you exert yourself on hot days. Take some time out from doing manual labor to enjoy some water and look at what you have done.

If you have made the decision to install exterior lights, consider using lights with motion sensors. The motion sensors will add a layer of security by turning on and alerting you to anyone on your property, including potential thieves. This can also lower your utility costs.

You will save yourself a lot of money when you do energy saving home improvements, such as re-caulking your windows. In addition to the obvious insulation improvements, this can also prevent moisture from seeping in and stimulating mold growth. Remove old and cracked caulk with a chisel before applying fresh caulk.

It can be tempting to eye out your measurements when doing woodworking, but using absolutely exact measurements is the key to quality work. Use the tape measure, the speed square, and the level.

The wall-to-wall carpeting found in some older homes can be stained and outdated. Wooden floors have a classic feel and last longer than most plush carpets.

By now, you know that there are some things which are better left to professional contractors. If you heed our advice, you’ll be sure to tackle only those projects that are within your skill level and leave the rest to the professionals. This will save you both time and money.
