Hi, This is Bob the contractor – If you need some restoration work please call at 248 341 3900. We also have pages above to read. Just click the buttons.

An insurance repair and restoration contractor is a company that brings your house back to life after some sort of calamity. A calamity could be called a disaster I suppose depending on the amount of damage and the size of the repair. Actually the building owner would decide how much damage there is and weather it is a disaster or a calamity. Some people would think the worse of something fairly small due to the fact that no matter what size the damage the bad thing is that their castle is tarnished and it better be back in order in a hurry.

Bringing a building back is an act of restoration. That is where the word restoration comes from in the title of this article. Generally in the insurance repair business a building has to be brought back to as good as before or better. That means that everything has to be done. All the different trades including tear out or demolition, carpentry, masonry, electrical, painting, roofing and siding, sweeping and hauling away. If you are thinking of hiring someone and he says that “Were not going to do it all” maybe to save you some money, well I would say you should tell him to take a hike. If you want to do some of the work yourself, well that is up to you as long as you know what you’re doing and earn some of the money.

An insurance repair means that the building owner bought the appropriate insurance on the building and everything is covered with no problem. This way the insurance knows that they have to pay for the building repairs and content repair by professionals that are fast and thorough.

It is the owners job to buy the right kind of insurance. This can be a tough thing. We are not an insurance company. All I can say is from our end there are good insurance companies and there are insurance companies that are tough to deal with. I don’t know if this tough attitude is from an insurance companies charging less on premiums and then trying to short change the customer on the service end or not.

Oakbridge Construction has many years experience and we would like to talk to you about your building, whether it is a house or commercial building. We can be fast and thorough. We can be clean and respectful. We have an “A” grade from the BBB and we don’t expect that to change any time soon. Give Bob a call at 248 341 3900

Replacing your old window treatments is a great way to improve the look of your windows. Blinds can easily become bent or faded as time goes on. Blinds are not that expensive and can make a real difference for your windows. It will surprise you.

Environmental Protection Agency certification is an important consideration in selecting a wood burning stove. Most stoves that are newly made are certified, but if you buy a used one, you will want to check to be sure. Always check for leaks, as carbon monoxide poisoning is a serious concern any time wood is burned indoors.

Make sure you have turned off the power circuit before you do any electrical home improvements. If you don’t cut the power to the area you’re working on, you could touch live wires. This will certainly injure you, and it could kill you.

Ensure that your caulking isn’t cracked, worn, separating or in otherwise poor condition. Check any caulking around your sink or bathtub periodically. Calking can lift up or crack, allowing cold air and moisture to get in and heat to escape. This can cause damage and cost you money and time. With enough water seepage, via damaged caulking, rot can set in on the floor below. Before applying the new caulk, remove all of the old caulk. Next, remove all built-up moisture from the area. This will help the new caulking to adhere properly, forming a waterproof seal.

When you are planning home improvement projects, it can be useful to look around for some inspiration. Head to your favorite decorating site or an old-fashioned library to get ideas quickly. Take home any color samples, as well as carpet swatches. Take your time to decide which project you are ready to take on, so you are ready to begin.

When painting your home, make sure to determine your budget. A new paint job is almost always within your budget, even if a full-on renovation project isn’t. A new coat of paint may make a room look completely different, especially if it is a drastic color change. Remember that if you aren’t happy with it, you can always change it!

When doing home improvements, there’s an easy way to save money on energy use. Utilizing a power strip is preferable to plugging each electronic device into a wall outlet. When you’re not using a power strip, you can simply switch it off, and it can be switched back on when you need it. By shutting the power off on the power strip, you will reduce your energy consumption and lower your electric bill.

As you read at the start of this article, there are things that you can do to make your home improvement project an enjoyable experience. The good news is that you’re already heading in the right direction. You have read some great tips in this article. All that’s left now is to actually implement what you have learned.

Replacing or adding weather stripping is one of the easiest and most affordable ways of creating an energy efficient home.

Replacing or adding weather stripping is one of the easiest and most affordable ways of creating an energy efficient home. Weatherstripping is very cheap and easy to do, it will stop cold air from coming in your home and you will save money on energy. No longer will you feel a draft on a cool night.

It is important to protect flooring when painting. Doing so can prevent paint from staining floors or carpets. A cheap way that this can be done is to employ the use of newspapers. Plastic sheeting or inexpensive paint cloths will work, too.

Take the time to shop for the best deals in home improvement supplies. This can help you avoid over-spending on expensive items. Adding new flooring can cost quite a bit of money so make sure you do your research and compare prices. Discount supply stores and bargain hunting places are great ways to save money.

As you plan your yearly remodeling projects, focus on the early months during the year for building your budget. This is when you have to watch money the most, as the holidays have just passed. The reason for this is sometimes more money creates more stress, so you can ease the problem by budgeting during the first few months of the year.

Make sure the spaces in your home are well-designated prior to placing your home on the market. Buyers shouldn’t have to guess what a space is supposed to be; have appropriate furnishings and accessories in each room. Buyers can then picture themselves living in the home more easily. Homes that feature well defined spaces look better and sell faster.

Why settle on traditional tables for your living area when you can create something distinctive and creative? An antique chest or some aged luggage can make for great storage and a great accent for your room. Place magazines and books on top of your coffee table to give it definition. You can do some amazing treatments, like throwing on a table cloth with a tea set for a countrified style.

With what you have read up to this point, you should be building your home improvement knowledge. Good job! You should now have a pretty good idea of what home improvement entails. You may want to hang onto the article for future reference, especially if you plan to give its suggestions a try.

Stained wood baseboards are more appealing than painted ones. This classic look blends naturally in with almost any style of decor. Stained baseboards also hide dings and scuffs better than wood and touch ups will blend easier. You could pick from a variety of colors in order to match your house’s decor.

Find out if there are home improvement classes in your area. Big home improvement shops desire to do business with you, so they give out classes of how to improve your home such as painting walls or installing floors. Take classes and try to learn the basic things before starting any type of home improvement project.

When getting help for a project, line up friends to help in case your helper isn’t so helpful. You know what they say about all your eggs and one basket. This is true in this particular case as well.

A small room in your house does not always have to be dark. Light can be the answer! Shine your windows and raise the blinds. You’ll be shocked at how much more spacious the room appears. Use pale colors when it comes to your walls and avoid clutter. Your tiny room won’t seem all that tiny anymore.

For a peaceful feel in any room, choose analogous colors. Analogous colors are those in the color wheel that are near each other, like orange and red, yellow and green, or purple and blue. Rooms with these color patterns tend to feel more relaxing.

Using hot glue to secure your bolts, screws, nuts and other pieces of hardware is a great organizational method. Trying to locate one screw or bolt may be problematic, even if you are organized. After rummaging through dozens of containers, it is difficult to keep track of all the written labels.

The porch is a great area for improvement when you are considering increasing your home’s value. A porch is something a person will see when first looking at your home. Paint your home and add some plants to your landscape. It’s true that your home value can increase much more that your actual initial home improvement investment. Small improvements can mean future financial gains.

If you can’t stand cleaning gutters or you have many trees around your home, look into a gutter protection system, such as a guard, that you can install over your gutters. As they keep things from accumulating in the gutters, water flows smoothly and efficiently. While you may have to maintain your gutters occasionally, it will greatly reduce the amount of debris that collects.

Both installing decks and painting the exterior of your home both provide great returns on your investment. A deck is a great place to hang out and relax.

As mentioned in the introduction, feng shui is a great idea about arranging things in the home. That is a way to improve your home, and arranging your furniture is a great way to give your home a new appearance.

Getting rid of your waste is an important thing to consider when undertaking a construction project. Demolishing walls or appliances creates a lot of garbage. Deciding on a storage space for this debris in advance and making appropriate disposal arrangements should be done in the project’s planning stages.

Choose fun home improvement projects in which your whole family can participate. A small garden adds some freshness to your home and is a lot of fun.

When you start a project, ensure you learn as much as you can about how you can do it yourself. It can be very expensive to hire professionals. If you learn how to do some improvements yourself, you can save a whole lot of money.

When you imagine your completed outdoor home improvement project, ask yourself if the changes you’re making will look out of place in the neighborhood. It’s not a great idea to have your neighbors mad at your neon green home, and anything that you regret is going to cost time and money to fix. It is good to make improvements that stand out due to their quality, as opposed to a crazy addition that sticks out in the neighborhood.

Keeping your home nice by cleaning out gutters is a smart idea that doesn’t take much time but affects your home a great deal. Gutters that are clogged can hold water and create small holes in your fascia board. This can make the exterior wood to deteriorate. Maintaining your gutters is a wise home improvement chore.

The goal of any home improvement project is to reduce your home ownership costs. With new appliances, you will save on electricity. Heating costs will go down as you will be improving your insulation. Plan ahead and have a detailed budget that you review often and stick to.

If you discuss routes you will take in your home in case of an emergency, it can help the safety of your family when in the house. People are likely to panic in the event of a traumatic incident. Working out a safe way to escape from your home during a fire or disaster can ensure that you will all be safe. So have a family meeting to make escape plans, and consider all the ramifications of each.

If you would like to do a full remodel of your house or a simple update, there are many low-cost options for you. Be creative and come up with a look you can take pride in. If you want to take on some renovations around the home, remember the tips learned here.

There are new dangers to keep an eye out for when doing home improvement. Don’t buy drywall (also known as wall board or sheet rock) that was made in China. China has imported the majority of drywall US contractors use since 2005. A lot of it does not have the same quality control that American made drywall does. In other cases, Chinese drywall has harmful gases that could corrode with the wires you have inside the walls.

Clearing out as much clutter as possible before you begin a new home improvement job is a great idea. This frees up space for moving furniture around your home as you complete the project and prevents clutter from building up in your home. The fewer items you have taking up space, the larger your room looks and feels.

If your home is in need of more space or you are not happy with the appearance, consider beginning a home improvement project to change it. Instead of getting used to a whole new set of design idiosyncrasies in a new home, a renovation lets you modify your existing living space to exactly suit your desires. Renovations are also less expensive than new homes, and come with less stress too.

Look at the world around you to gain inspiration for your next home improvement project. A quick look through magazines devoted to interior design and decor (you can find them at book stores or your local library) can give you great ideas. Get fabric swatches, and color samples. Think about the look you truly want, so that you’ll be properly prepared for making home repairs.

Be sure to have fun while improving your home! You can turn a day of work into a fun, social affair by enlisting the help of friends or relatives. When you finish projects at home, you will feel a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment. This will only be greater if shared with those you love.

As you are considering any home improvement projects, you must keep your level of skill, the functionality and the affordability of the projects in mind. A home is a huge investment, and it can be nurtured like any other investment. If you put in the appropriate care and make improvements where possible, the value of your home will grow throughout your lifetime and perhaps even into your children’s.

If there are small cracks in the roof, aluminum tape may be all you need to make the repair. Simply separate the tape from its backing and adhere the tape to a well cleaned roof, free from any dirt or debris. The tape creates a waterproof surface to cover the cracks.

If you want an easy project that brings great returns, replace your old wood front door with a steel one. Surprisingly, steel doors are a good investment. A study done recently found that steel doors add more than double their actual cost to the home’s value. A new steel door can boost your home’s curb appeal, and it makes a home more energy efficient.

When doing home improvement, be sure you know about the longevity of different items. For example, a chimney will work well for about a century. A sturdy wood deck may start showing wear after about 15 years. Well-made hardwood floors can endure up to a century with minimal maintenance, but vinyl flooring is going to last no more than 30 years. Consider all of these things as you plan a renovation, to determine if the money and energy you put out is worthwhile.

When you start a project, ensure you learn as much as you can about how you can do it yourself. Having the work done professionally can set you back thousands of dollars. It’s important to understand there are many home improvement projects that are easy to do on your own.

Before spending a lot of money on so-called “quality” supplies for any home improvement, make sure to shop around for better deals. Placing down new flooring could be costly. That is why you need to compare different prices in order to save money. Seek prices and quotes from discount suppliers and local home improvement centers.

Analogous color schemes could be used in your home to create a restful feel. These colors are close on the color wheel and can create a very coordinated scene in your home. This scheme is also more peaceful and tranquil, yielding a wonderful home environment.

You should follow any direction that your contractor wishes to take. If you’ve done proper research on a contractor and verified her credentials, you should be confident that she knows her trade backwards and forwards. If he tells you that the change will be bad, it most likely will. Or, if he says something will go over-budget, it will. Contractors can be very valuable towards establishing a great renovation project.

Painting is a project you can tackle for excellent results. A simple paint job can clean or spruce up walls in a jiffy, and choosing a different hue can give a room a new look. For further improvements, try painting your outdoor furniture.

This article stated that it is vital that you know when you are in over your head with home improvements. If you follow the rules contained here, you can ensure you are making the right choices. A little research and planning can makes things go smoothly, while saving you time and money.

A good home improvement tip that will up the value of your home is to replace the older front door with something that is nice, such as steel. One study indicates that an entry door made of steel will more than pay for itself when the home sells. Most homeowners recoup almost 130% of their investment. A steel door is a great way to add curb appeal to your home while also making it more energy efficient.

Performing regular maintenance on your home is one of the best home improvement tips you can get. Clogged gutters can reduce the efficiency of your home and cause a lot of issues. Due to this trapped moisture, your wood can rot. If you want to improve your home, be sure to have clean gutters.

Construction adhesive can be used to stop floors from squeaking. Even if you have to work out of the basement or crawl under the house, it will be worth the while. You will basically be gluing each floor joist to its neighbor by applying a glue line along each one with a caulking gun.

Whenever you replace siding, understand that stucco can be quite expensive to install. Are you sure that ready to invest this amount of money in using stucco? You may have your heart set on a certain look, but you can also find a cheaper alternative.

When tiling a floor, shower, bathtub or any other moisture-prone area, use cement backer board behind the tile. The cement prevents moisture damage to your drywall. When water gets on dry wall, it will mildew and form mold on the wall.

Before you decide to tackle any type of home improvement project, you should first think about something your kids could possibly help you with. Planting and tending to a garden in your front yard is hard to mess up, adds real value to your home, looks beautiful, and can even be a family bonding opportunity.

A protective guard or screen installed on your gutters can prevent them becoming clogged by leaves and save you the arduous task of frequent cleaning. With these screens in place, leaves will rarely cause problems and water drainage should not be impeded. You will likely still need to sweep the exterior of these free of debris occasionally; however, there will be no more scooping of pounds of decomposing leaves out of the actual gutters.

Install a peephole in your door. Know who is knocking on the door without having to open it! Peepholes do not cost much money and are relatively easy to install. This project requires minimal time and tools. Doing this will make it so that you can ensure that you do not open the door for someone that may not be welcome.

It’s a good idea to enhance your home’s curb appeal. Try to improve your home’s exterior by moving the lawn and trimming your hedges. Add some bushes, also. Keep the walkway clear. Get the the exterior walls and roof power washed. Ensure that the windows are sparkling clean. This can leave great impressions to someone who is viewing your home for the first time.

In the end, you need to be sure that you merge your skill level, functionality and even affordability when considering home improvement options. Your house is among your most valuable assets, and if you take the time to keep it in great shape, your family can enjoy it for generations.

Before buying “quality” supplies, see to it that you shop around for the best deals possible. Putting down new flooring can be costly and comparing prices can help you get the best prices. There are discount supply stores out there, as well as bargain hunting places that can help.

The windows in your home are important when dealing with home improvement. Bring them up to date! Make use of double glazed windows. They might not be cheap, but they will save you money when it comes to reducing your bill. Not to mention, you are improving your home’s security. If you are not able to buy windows for your home, you can always repaint them and put up some curtains or blinds to improve the look.

It’s imperative that you read through and understand any contracts before you sign with a contractor. Though it can be a tedious task, every part of the contract must be examined for anything you don’t like. Otherwise, you might get taken advantage of by the contractor. Whether you trust your contractor or not, you must read the contract!

Believe it or not, one of the best improvements for your house, hands down, is to simply paint the walls! This can increase the value of your home because it makes it look better. Painting is a relatively inexpensive job, but it is important that you pick just the right color.

Maintaining your home includes paying attention to outdoor requirements such as when your home needs painting or when your decks need waterproofing or repair. Periodic attention to maintaining outdoor features of your home will help it retain its value. A deck will provide you with an amazing place to entertain guests, or to relax on a steamy summer weekend with a cold drink.

Feng shui is the idea that the placement of furniture can impact your home’s energy flow and have a difference in your quality of life. This is a form of home improvement as well, as you can give a new appearance to your home by re-arranging your furniture.
